The last time the Mavs were in Staples Center, it was opening night and Dallas put up arguably its best performance of the year, beating the Los Angeles Lakers 99-91.
It will take a similar performance to top the Clips tonight, who have started the season 11-6 and 7-3 at home.
This will be an interesting matchup, as the Mavs and Clippers bring players into this matchup that played for the other team last year. Dallas has former Clipper players Chris Kaman and Elton Brand. Los Angeles has the pleasure of having Lamar Odom on their roster, and it will be the first time Odom has faced Dallas since he ended a horrific 50-game tenure last year by quitting on the Mavs in an April road game against the Memphis Grizzlies.
Caron Butler is going into his second season with the Clippers, after earning a championship ring with Dallas in 2011. The Mavs will always have a soft spot for Butler, as well as all the players on that championship roster.
One player who is looking forward to this matchup is O.J. Mayo. It will be the first time Mayo has face the Clippers since he got ousted from the playoffs in a seven-game series last year while playing for the Memphis Grizzlies.
"It just makes me want to go that much harder, obviously," Mayo said. "You remember those games, those losses. You remember Game 7."
The Mavs will have to contain Clipper stars Blake Griffin and Chris Paul. Paul has had a great career against Dallas.
The game can be seen on national television on ESPN. You can also hear the game on the radio on 103.3 ESPNDallas. Tip is around 9:30 PM CT.
