On Friday, Dirk Nowitzki practiced with the Mavs' starters for the first time since offseason knee surgery.
This marks a major step into his eventual return to Dallas' starting lineup.
Dirk had his most effective game on Wednesday night against the Miami Heat, scoring a season-high 19 points, including a game-tying one-legged fade-away to send the game into overtime, where the Mavs eventually lost.
"Whether I'm starting or not really doesn't matter," Nowitzki said after Friday's practice. "I guess we'll make that decision tomorrow. We didn't talk about it today."
If Dirk can keep building up his stamina, we will soon see him where he belongs, in the starting lineup.
"We'll let you know," head coach Rick Carlisle said. "It's an important step, but he's got to be ready for it."
