The Dallas Mavericks decided to commit to Mike James, and the 37-year-old backup point guard's minimum contract is now guaranteed for the rest of the season.

Dallas has outscored opponents by 30 points in the 90 minutes that James has been on the floor, and head coach Rick Carlisle has even opted to use James instead of staring point guard Darren Collison in closing situations.

He has averaged 2.6 points in 10 games for the Mavs.

“It’s always good that they see that I can still play this game at a high level,” said James.

Rodrigue Beaubois, another candidate for the backup point guard position, has played well in his last two games and could challenge James for those backup minutes.
